I sat down, early this year, with some annoyance over the way our representatives in the Federal Government were handling the Southern US Border. I'm a fan of Immigration when the Legal process is followed but, to put it mildly, there were significant issues with unchecked, illegal crossings and the situation had gotten out of hand. Governor Abbot and the Texas National Guard certainly had some disapproval of how this situation was being handled, as we watched the news cover a showdown with Federal Border Agents at a popular crossing location.
Out of my annoyance over the situation came my new single “Down On The Border Line.”
I went into this writing session with a single phrase I heard on “Morning Wire," a daily news program I subscribe to that's produced by Daily Wire. The phrase started “By the air and the land and the water of the Rio Grande…” I finished that phrase with the thought “…the state of Texas draws a harder line” and I moved forward adding phrases like “If not by yours, then by our hand” and ultimately ended up with what I thought was a catchy melody & chorus and a few verses that essentially say “If the Federal Government won't do the job, Texas will.”
Though this song is not in my typical “wheelhouse" and I had reservations and internal conflict over whether to record and release it, I ultimately came to find this was not a song I could leave on a shelf somewhere it would never see the light of day. My intent, with this song, is to simply say we can't ignore the way we've agreed, through legal processes, to handle issues in our country. If discussion about the border, or politics in general, gets you particularly angry or riled up, I recommend exercising personal judgement regarding whether to listen to this one and will completely understand if you choose not to.
Finally, it's with excitement and a small amount of hesitation that I introduce you to my newest single “Down On The Border Line,” available now for pre-release streaming and (free or name your price) downloads on my New Release page. If all goes well with distribution, you'll see this song pop up on 3rd Party Streamers this Friday, June 14th, just in time for Flag Day!
